Ken Farber, the founder of MBST, worked in major medical centers, including The University of California San Francisco and Kaiser Permanente, for over 10 years helping patients referred by their doctors and psychotherapists for help with a wide variety of stress related conditions. MBST and Stress Related Physical Conditions

Research into mind-body methods to improve physical symptoms is growing out of its infancy. A National Institutes of Health panel concluded that “evidence is strong” (their highest rating) that mind-body approaches are effective for reducing chronic pain and insomnia. Pathways linking the mind and body are being identified with greater and greater precision by modern science. Even professionals who consider it their business to debunk alternative medicine acknowledge the validity of mind-body methods to improve stress related medical conditions.

Participants in MBST programs are given a medical symptom checklist at the start and at the end of their program.  They report an average 50% drop in symptoms by the end of the program.  These symptoms include:

  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Premenstrual and menstrual problems
  • Headaches
  • Pain in the back, shoulders and neck
  • Sleep problems
  • Stress related skin conditions
  • Nervous tics
  • Urinary irregularities
